Cambodia Casinos

There is a fascinating history to the Cambodia gambling dens that lie just across the border from next door Thailand, in which casino gambling is banned. Eight casinos are established in a relatively tiny area in the city of Poipet in Cambodia. This band of Cambodia casinos is in a perfect spot, a three to four hour drive from Bangkok and Macao, the 2 most popular wagering centers in Asia. Cambodia gambling dens do a thriving business with Thai laborers and travelers from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with only very few Westerners. The phenomenal capital gained from the gambling dens ranges from seven and a half million dollars to over 12.5 million, and there are a number of restrictions constraints for gambling hall ownership. Ownership is presumed to be largely Thai; however, financial sources are cryptic. The borders are officially open from 9:00 a.m. to 17:00, and although visas are for all intents and purposes required to pass, there are ways around this, as is correct of many border crossings.

The original Cambodia gambling dens premiered in Phnom Penh in the mid nineties, but were required to close in 1998, leaving only a single gambling hall in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a docked boat casino, highlights one hundred and fifty slot machine games and 60 tables. The Naga river boat is open all day and night with 42 tables of mini-baccarat banque, four tables of twenty-one, 10 of roulette, two of Caribbean Stud Poker, and one each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.

The original gambling hall in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, premiered in the late nineties and the Golden Crown soon followed. There are 150 slot machines and 5 tables at the Golden Crown and 104 slot machines and 68 tables at the Holiday Palace. The latest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort contains 300 slots and seventy tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has one hundred and sixty six slots and 96 table games, including 87 baccarat chemin de fer (the most popular game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Also, there is the Casino Tropicana, with one hundred and thirty five one armed bandits and sixty six of the familiar table games, as well as one table of Casino Stud Poker. One more of the eight casinos in Poipet, also in a motel, is the Princess Casino with one hundred and sixty six slots and ninety seven table games. The Star Vegas Casino is part of an all-around vacation and hotel complex that contains numerous comforts aside from the casino, which offers 10,000 square feet of one hundred and thirty slots and 88 table games.
