The conclusive number of Kyrgyzstan gambling halls is a fact in question. As data from this country, out in the very remote interior part of Central Asia, often is awkward to acquire, this may not be all that surprising. Whether there are two or three approved casinos is the item at issue, perhaps not quite the most earth-shaking piece of information that we do not have.
What will be accurate, as it is of the majority of the ex-USSR nations, and absolutely accurate of those in Asia, is that there will be a lot more illegal and bootleg market gambling dens. The adjustment to authorized gambling didn’t energize all the former places to come from the illegal into the legal. So, the bickering over the total amount of Kyrgyzstan’s casinos is a minor one at most: how many authorized ones is the thing we are trying to answer here.
We understand that located in Bishkek, the capital municipality, there is the Casino Las Vegas (a spectacularly original title, don’t you think?), which has both table games and slot machines. We can also see both the Casino Bishkek and the Xanadu Casino. Each of these have 26 slot machine games and 11 table games, separated amidst roulette, vingt-et-un, and poker. Given the amazing similarity in the square footage and setup of these two Kyrgyzstan gambling halls, it may be even more astonishing to see that the casinos are at the same location. This seems most astonishing, so we can no doubt conclude that the list of Kyrgyzstan’s gambling dens, at least the approved ones, stops at 2 members, 1 of them having altered their name a short while ago.
The nation, in common with most of the ex-USSR, has experienced something of a fast conversion to capitalism. The Wild East, you may say, to refer to the anarchical conditions of the Wild West an aeon and a half back.
Kyrgyzstan’s gambling halls are in fact worth going to, therefore, as a piece of social research, to see money being wagered as a type of social one-upmanship, the aristocratic consumption that Thorstein Veblen wrote about in nineteeth century u.s..
